What Happens During a Pipe Installation?
During new construction or remodel, your plumbing system will be one of the first installed in your home. Though you may think that your pipes are only installed during the beginning of the build, your system continues to be worked on throughout a remodel or construction process.
The pipe installation process consists of 5 steps:
- Rough-in: This is where our experts work with your construction team to determine pipe layouts and how they’ll connect to the main drainage line. This critical step determines the efficiency and functionality of all your plumbing fixtures.
- Large fixtures: Showers, tubs, and other large fixtures are installed before doors are framed to prevent damage. This allows your bathroom or kitchen to be built around these large fixtures.
- Main supply line: Your freshwater connects to your entire system with the main supply line installed below frost level in the ground, so it’s not affected by the weather. Smaller lines are connected to this main line before running to every fixture in your home.
- Drains: Now that you have your intake line, you need an outtake. That’s where drains come in. This usually includes a ‘vent-and-soil-stack’ that goes from your ground floor to the roof and connects every waste drain in your home before connecting to your primary sewer line and septic system.
- Small fixtures: It’s now time for the final touches that bring your home to life. This often includes faucets, showerheads, P-traps, sinks, toilets, and outdoor fixtures to properly prepare your home for use.

Reasons for Pipe Replacement
If you’ve had frequent pipe repairs that don’t seem to solve the problem for long, it may be time to consider repiping. Often repiping is an excellent choice for your home if it is over 50 years old, you experience low water pressure or fluctuating water temperature. Don’t continue to pay for repair after repair when there may be more significant issues with your plumbing system. A complete repiping prevents leaks, saves you money, and improves your home’s value.
Older homes are great for their character and sentimental value, but they aren’t ideal when it comes to critical systems like you’re plumbing. Outdated materials like steel or cast iron deteriorate much faster than today’s PVC alternatives. There are also updated installation and safety measures that can help your pipes become more efficient, safer, and functional.
